Angered by this partiality, Daksha cursed Chandra that he would gradually lose his brightness and become weak.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati had two sons – Ganesha and Kartikeya.
Once, a competition was held to decide who would marry first. The challenge was to circle the entire world. Kartikeya started the journey, but Ganesha circled his parents, considering them his whole world.
Impressed by his wisdom, Shiva and Parvati declared Ganesha the winner. When Kartikeya returned and found this out, he became upset and went to live alone in the mountains.

Mahakaleshwar Temple is located in Ujjain and is associated with one of the most powerful forms of Shiva, known as Mahakal.
The word “Mahakal” means “The Lord of Time and Death.”

In ancient times, there lived a Brahmin in Ujjain who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. His four sons were also deeply devoted and regularly worshipped Shiva.
At that time, there was a powerful demon named Dushan. Through intense penance, he received a boon and started troubling the people. He spread terror across the city and killed anyone who worshipped Lord Shiva. He also harassed saints and sages.
Despite this, the Brahmin and his sons continued their devotion to Shiva without fear.
Enraged by this, the demon tried to kill them. At that moment, all the devotees prayed together:
“O Lord, please protect us!”

Hearing the cries of his devotees, a powerful light and divine energy suddenly appeared. From that energy, Lord Shiva manifested in his fierce form as Mahakal.

In ancient times, there was a great king named Mandhata, who was a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. He performed intense penance to please him.
